AI / ML Engineer
Physicist, founder and research engineer building AI products, analytical models, and decision-ready insight from complex scientific and business data.
About Nathan
I'm a physicist, founder and research engineer who combines rigorous data analysis with hands-on systems and product development.
I founded LabDAWg, an AI-powered desktop audio editor, and led it from concept to open beta with paying users across product, engineering, go-to-market, and fundraising.
My background includes optical systems, signal processing, calibration, and experimental research, with a record of improving detection performance and reducing test cycles.

Evaluation harnesses, calibration, and uncertainty analysis before claims — models earn trust with numbers.
From LLM orchestration and DSP kernels to billing, auth, and signed desktop distribution.
Models grounded in the underlying structure of the system, not just curve-fitting the data.

Freelance & Contract Focus
Four areas I take on for clients — from a scoped prototype to a production system with the evaluation and instrumentation to back it up.

LLM orchestration, model routing, tool and function calling, structured outputs, RAG, evaluation harnesses, and cost/latency optimization.

Computer vision, physics-informed and predictive modeling, regression, classification, clustering, feature engineering, and time-series analysis.

Real-time DSP, FFT and spectral analysis, nonlinear curve fitting, noise characterization, calibration, and measurement uncertainty.

Serverless edge services, managed databases, auth, subscription billing, API design, telemetry pipelines, and cross-platform desktop packaging.
Portfolio
Systems I designed and built end-to-end, from real-time audio engines to agentic study and job-search tooling.
Desktop DAW that combines native recording, editing, mixing, MIDI, and plugin workflows with natural-language agentic control.
Open-source, no-account chess learning app with 181 focused lessons, progressive-hint puzzles, an in-browser Stockfish analysis board, local progress tracking, and real-time games backed by Cloudflare Durable Objects.
Study platform with a curriculum dependency graph, confidence-calibrated quizzes, spaced review, coding exercises, a progress-aware AI study buddy, job-specific interview preparation, and a job search agent.
Quantitative research into reversal and momentum signals in crypto markets.
Systematic backtest of a long-only mean-reversion approach on equities.
Simulation and analysis pipeline bridging terahertz scanning tunneling microscopy theory and lab measurement.
Exploratory analysis and unsupervised structure discovery across nutrition data.
The original project index remains available on GitHub Pages.
